In the first part of the seminar, I will talk about my experience as a researcher focussing on topics of gender and explain why I think the study of time allocation is key to understanding the causes and consequences of gender inequalities. In the second part, I will present findings of gender equality trends in time use across East Asian and Western societies in the last three decades. The findings reveal that the closing of gender gaps in paid work, domestic work, and total work has stalled in the most recent decade in several countries.
