Fighting the invisible enemy – An update on Therapeutic HPV vaccine development
Dr Hellner attended medical school in Germany and holds a medical PhD. Her postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School focussed on the discovery of novel therapeutics for HPV associated cancers. She joined Oxford University 12 years ago as a clinical lecturer. After completing her clinical training in obstetrics & gynaecology, she was appointed as Senior Fellow in Women’s Health. She is an honorary consultant gynaecologist at OUH and leads the trust’s colposcopy department. Her research aims at utilizing the body’s immune system to fight persistent infections with HPV and precancers. She is the Chief-investigator for the first in-human trial of a therapeutic vaccine that was developed in Oxford.
