This ‘conversation’ compares support in the UK for carers with that provided in a number of other countries, including Australia, Canada, Finland, Sweden and Japan, identifying different types and models of policy support for carers.

The presentation will be given by Sue Yeandle, Director, Centre for International Research on Care, Labour & Equalities, in the Department of Sociological Studies at the University of Sheffield and Editor-in-Chief, International Journal of Care and Caring. Offering a preview of the analysis presented in Professor Yeandle’s forthcoming book, “Making Caring Matter: The Mobilisation of Carers and its Impact on Policy-making Around the World”, the presentation highlights a proud history in the UK of campaigning for and giving voice to carers’ needs, but shows we still have much to learn from other societies.
