Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic disease which results in irreversible, progressive damage to the cartilage of joints with a prevalence estimated to be over 303 million globally. During this seminar I will introduce the concept of the mouse and human Skeletal Stem Cell (SSC). I will share our understanding of how SSC are affected by age, have the capability to “activate” following injury and how, under niche augmentation, can be instructed to regenerate cartilage. My goal is to provide an effective therapeutic adjunct to regenerate cartilage and alleviate symptoms for patients with OA.
