Has COVID-19 Changed How We Prepare for Climate Change?
This talk will bring together two different perspectives on climate change – that of a climate scientist and a philosopher. On top of being outstanding academics in their respective fields, Dr. Friederike Otto and Prof. John Broome have both been lead authors on the IPCC’s Assessment Reports. They will share their work and reflect on the challenges and opportunities to tackle climate change, that have emerged through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Friederike Otto is the Associate Director of the University of Oxford’s Environmental Change Institute, and Associate Professor in the Global Climate Research Programme. She researches the impact of climate change on extreme weather events, such as storms, droughts and floods.
Prof. John Broome is an Emeritus White’s Professor of Moral Philosophy at the University of Oxford and an Emeritus Fellow of Corpus Cristi College. He has written extensively about the moral issues of climate change, including his book ‘Climate matters: ethics in a warming world’.
The talk will be hosted and recorded through Zoom. Attendees will be emailed the Zoom link and password.
