Rethinking Leadership: A Conversation with Dinah Rose, KC
COVID-19 has forced a re-evaluation of priorities and purpose. While leadership failures and wider self-interest have been part of the story, fundamental values of solidarity, compassion, and hope have come to the fore. As we move into the post-COVID-19 world, the present offers a window of opportunity to determine how we will go forward.
Now, more than ever, we need a new generation of leaders who will further the flourishing of society and the planet, placing the public good above personal gain. We need to rethink the idea and practice of leadership to successfully face the complex challenges that lie before us. It is time to consider, as you continue your journey in Oxford, how can you become the leader you want to see in the world?
The Oxford Character Project invites you to participate in a conversation with Dinah Rose KC, the President of Magdalen College, to explore the nature of good leadership in our incredibly challenging and complex times. Dinah Rose is the 43rd President of the College since its foundation in 1458, and the first woman to hold the post. After practising at the Bar for 30 years, as a member of Blackstone Chambers, specialising in human rights, public law and competition law, she returned to Magdalen as President in September 2020. Moderated by Dr Edward Brooks, Executive Director of the Oxford Character Project, this conversation will give you an opportunity to “rethink” how you might exercise leadership, both now and into the future, for the good of society.
The conversation will be followed by a networking reception where we will share more information about the leadership programmes we offer – Global Leadership Initiative and Global Leadership Challenge. Our programmes are designed to help students from diverse backgrounds to grow in qualities of character and leadership that will help them to further the good of organisations and communities around the world. Join us to learn more and see if this could be the highlight of your year in Oxford!
