Launch event: Human Iron Research at Oxford (HIRO)
Generous, unrestricted funding support from Vifor Pharma has driven the creation of Human Iron Research at Oxford (HIRO), a new initiative looking to link clinicians and scientists with an interest in iron research across the Oxford campus. Iron is implicated in a broad range of disorders, including anaemia and cancer, inflammation and infection, gastrointestinal and endocrine diseases, and nutrition and the microbiome, and HIRO will promote and facilitate translational iron research in these areas. HIRO is led by Dr John Ryan (TGU) and Prof Hal Drakesmith (WIMM).
The HIRO launch event is an opportunity for anyone involved in iron research at Oxford to present their current work, meet other iron researchers and also for those who wish to apply for HIRO pump priming funding to come and present their ideas. Presentations are limited to a maximum of 5 slides/10 minutes each. Find out more about HIRO and the HIRO internal fund here by visiting www.expmedndm.ox.ac.uk/tgu/human-iron-research-at-oxford-hiro.
