Switching to Law: Law conversion courses and the SQE
If you are interested in becoming a solicitor but are not currently studying law then this event is for you!
In 2021 the route to qualification as a solicitor changed quite substantially and this has meant we have all had to get used to learning about new types of “conversion” courses and new exams. The old style GDL (Graduate Diploma in Law) now looks and sounds a little different and new legal education providers are emerging to offer a myriad of courses to help pass the new Solicitor Qualifying Exams (SQE).
Perhaps you are grappling with some of these types of questions:
What exact qualification do I need for a career as a solicitor?
What is the difference between diploma courses (law) and masters courses and SQE training for non-law graduates – are they different qualifications?
A lot of courses are labelled as “GDL equivalent” – do these hold the same value or just the same content as a GDL?
Are some institutions better than others?
What do I do next?
So, if you are thinking of becoming a solicitor and would like some clarity on how the new SQE system of qualification works and what the differences are between the different sorts of courses then please come along.
This session will be lead by Sarah Pooley, Associate Professor and Dean at the University of Law. Sarah has extensive experience both as a practising solicitor and as an educator.
Careers advisers will also be on hand during the event so please bring your questions and we will do our best to answer them.
Students and graduates from any year or subject are welcome.
