Panel Discussion on The Future of Work in the Age of AI
Join us at the Nelson Mandela Hall, Saïd Business School (University of Oxford) for a fascinating discussion on the future of work in the era of artificial intelligence (AI), featuring:
Daron Acemoglu, Institute Professor, MIT, and Sanjaya Lall Visiting Professor, University of Oxford
Sir Chrisopher Pissarides, Regius Professor of Economics, LSE, and Nobel laureate in economics
Helen Margetts, Professor of Internet and Society, University of Oxford
How can we best use AI technologies to create meaningful and well-paying jobs in the future? This panel event will bring together three of the world’s leading thinkers on AI’s societal impact to debate the future of work in the age of AI. There are many untapped opportunities for creating pro-worker, pro-human AI, and there are some small-scale examples showing that this is feasible. Yet, the current trend in AI technologies is towards greater inequality and more work elimination. It also appears inevitable that there will be more surveillance both in workplaces and beyond. In contrast, some believe in a different set of priorities and a different architecture for AI models that could be more useful for workers. Are there examples of occupations in which jobs can be made more meaningful and wages can increase if AI is used in the right way? And if so, are there barriers to achieving this type of outcome?
The event will be followed by a reception with food and drinks.
