Beyond Cherry Picking: The Future of the UK’s and Switzerland’s Relation with the EU
The United Kingdom has officially left the European Union, but the challenge of “getting Brexit done” is now entering the deciding phase. Just like Switzerland, which for years has been struggling to conclude a framework agreement with the EU, the UK faces the daunting task of formalising long-term ties with Brussels. The last weeks of turbulence in both, Switzerland and the UK, have not diminished the challenge of how to build sustainable and mutually beneficial relations with the EU, quite the contrary. Join us on Friday 23th October, at 6pm, to get first-hand insight into the current challenges and opportunities of these relationships.
Niklaus Nuspliger, Political Correspondent for the Swiss daily Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) based in London, Kalypso Nicolaïdis, Professor of International Relations at the University of Oxford, and Alexis Lautenberg, former ambassador of Switzerland to the EU, in Italy and the UK will discuss ‘What are the main challenges in the design of the future relations with the EU for the UK and Switzerland respectively? Where are the similarities between Switzerland and the UK’s position? And what would be the pareto optimum in the future relations with the EU?’
