Quant Hub seminar: Rethinking Special Educational Needs - A Transdiagnostic Approach
Difficulties in one area of childhood functioning can influence others. But the interplay between different areas of functioning (e.g., cognition, language, and social and emotional functioning) remains unclear. Psychometric network models were fitted to data from four population-based cohorts in England (N~50,000) to determine how different areas of childhood functioning cluster within developmental domains and how these domains relate to each other. Next, latent class models were fitted to the same data to determine whether there are sub-groups of children who share similar profiles of difficulties. The findings from these analyses will be discussed as well as potential implications for how children with special educational needs are supported.
