Artist Alia Farid (b.1985) lives and works in Kuwait and Puerto Rico, and her work is centred around everyday objects and local practices, tracing the often marginalised histories they reveal. In installations, drawing on archival materials, photographs and interviews, the artist excavates the obscure, giving it a political significance and creating a connection to our shared lived history.
“The projects I’m going to share are not in chronological order because my work is, I think, better understood when looked at as constellations. My work is not medium specific, I make art to help me think through questions. And those questions often send me in different directions and on different material explorations.”
