Get a refresher on the fundamentals of experimental design for research involving the use of animals as well as an interactive introduction to the NC3Rs Experimental Design Assistant (EDA). This will be useful for those just starting in research, those with impending grant applications, or anyone interested in doing high quality reproducible science.
The EDA (eda.nc3rs.org.uk) is a free online tool that gives feedback on your study as you build it and also includes tools such as a power calculator and a randomiser for treatment assignment. This is an interactive session in which you will be supported to recreate an EDA diagram from a provided experiment template. You will then have the opportunity to get support in building your own EDA diagram relevant to your work, so please come prepared with an experiment in mind that you would like to represent using the EDA.
You will need to bring your own laptop computer, with the ability to connect to the internet, and we advise that your computer is fully charged as we cannot guarantee availability of power sockets.
There is also the chance for 1:1 meetings in the afternoon following this session for more bespoke feedback on your experimental plans. Get in touch with Chris for further information.
This event will be held IN-PERSON at the Science Area (South Parks Road) in Oxford, further details will be released to attendees. The event is FREE but registration is necessary, so please email chris.barkus@nc3rs.org.uk to secure your place or with any queries.
