Eric Bennett studies how the proteome is remodelled in response to stress. In particular, his research focuses on the quality control function of the ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS), which is a crucial mechanism of selective protein degradation. His work is relevant to age-related degeneration and disease states, including Parkinson’s Disease and cancer. Topics that his lab investigates include understanding how defective translation products are selectively targeted for degradation, the dynamics of mRNA sequestration into stress granules and proteomic approaches for understanding global UPS function and alterations in response to stress.
