This talk will present a study that examines the differences in beliefs about teaching and learning mathematics among future teachers and their teacher educators/professors across five countries—Chinese Taipei, Poland, Russian Federation, Singapore, and the United States. The study analyzed data including teacher educators, and future primary and secondary teachers grouped within institutions in each country, utilizing meta-analytic methods to estimate and synthesize effects within institutions within a country. In addition to discussing the findings’ study, the seminar will shed light on the moderating role of program coherence, mathematical content knowledge, and mathematical pedagogical knowledge in the magnitude of belief differences between future teachers and their educators. This seminar offers a valuable opportunity to delve into the implications of this study’s findings and their relevance in designing curricula and experiences within teacher education programs, ultimately aiming to enhance mathematics education.
